What Atlas Held to Icarus

Heyore, braving soldier!
Where have come you wanderer?
If you be twined steel nerves,
Are you keeper or slaughterer?

You prance my curiosity,
Dear peasant and prince.
Company from the heavens
Has been lifetimes since.

Afore you tender th’edge,
‘Fore you blast off to die,
I need pose some obstacle:
You fight her for her; why?

Now, steady is my shoulder
‘neathe the Earth as cover,
But you crackle uncertain
‘nder the weight of your lover.

Could the hands be so rugged
With rickets and stains,
Much heavier than this carry
Which speeds grain by grain?

Alas, you’re able here to rest
‘Til with wings fit and adorned…
But will remain prisoner
‘Til you breathe your storm.

So faceless
So nameless
So careful
Brave fellow,

Though I care not of these things
About Alice I must bellow;

Her graceless!
Her faithless!
Her ‘mareful!
…Young girl…

Though I brood not on these things
It’s her blade me in-curls

You fight her for her; why?
After being taken to dust,
After the Gods’ long retreat,
Must you make us cry?!

So please…
Retire.
